Wood fire cooking and organic plum picking：体験日記

Hi! This is Sumie, one of the volunteer staff. I participated in the base camp building and organic plum picking tour in Shika, this weekend.
Have you ever start a fire by using a flint?

It was my first time to strike a fire with flint rock and steel. It was fascinating to see how the rocks, which we randomly selected in the forest, creat tiny sparks when hit by steel. I was amazed to see these sparks made char cloth into ember, and the ember becoming a small fire put together with a small amount of cotton-like wild plants. By making fire like this, it was totally understandable that ancient people worshiped fire as god. The fire we started was precious.
At the base camp deep in the forest, all the foods, ( soup, toasts and smoked eggs and sausages) we cooked by the fire we started, tasted amazing!
I also enjoyed the organic plum picking after lunch. Surrounded by trees in the forest, we picked green plums while we chatted how we make plum paste, plum sauce, plum juice, etc. Birds were singing. Nice breeze was coming and going with fresh air. It was such a healing atmosphere, everyone in the tour had beautiful smile on his or her face.
